Paul Bierman -certified ESMT (EQUINE SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPIST).  For a horses size they are quite fragile animals.  You have to keep them maintained.  Sports massage is excellent as a preventative measure. This, combined with a thorough exercise program and good nutrition can keep your horse on top of his/her game. 60% of your horse’s body weight is muscle. The muscle is not only responsible for motion but aids in keeping the bone structure aligned. Muscle problems can be caused by stress; lack of conditioning; overworking; injury; or compensation for injury. Massage can alleviate the symptoms associated with these types of injuries.

Massage Benefits:

  1. Injury prevention
  2. Muscle tone enhancement
  3. Improved circulation; helps to reduce inflammation and swelling in the joints (excellent for arthritic horses)
  4. Eases muscle spasms and to break up adhesions in the muscle

Helps:

  1. Horses with overreach problems
  2. Horses with bending or flexing issues
  3. Horses that won't pick up a lead
  4. Horses prone to tying up
  5. Horses with high anxiety levels

Sports Massage is for all horses regardless of size, age, breed, or discipline; even mules, ponies, miniatures, etc.

Don't wait till your horse has an injury before you decide to have him/her massaged. Some of my clients in the past have expected miracles from the 1st massage after an injury. Sometimes that does happen and sometimes it takes a few massages to see the effect.

ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT MASSAGE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR VETERINARY MEDICINE

There are 4 people in your horse’s life that are essential, they are:

  1. YOU, THE OWNER
  2. THE VET
  3. FERRIER
  4. MASSAGE THERAPIST

Overview: When I massage a horse it takes a minimum of 1 hour.  There are 72 pressure points on each side of your horse. Each horse receives a full body massage, beginning at the pole and ending at the tail - nothing less.
